- HelpMeLogin is not AARP, UnitedHealthcare, The Hartford or New York Life. This site holds no membership number, no policy number and no credentials.
- Type secure.aarp.org yourself. One name licensed across a dozen carriers breeds a dozen plausible sign-in domains.
- A caller who already knows your membership number is not thereby AARP. Hang up, then dial 1-888-687-2277 yourself.
- The Fraud Watch Network line is 1-877-908-3360. It takes reports of an approach. It cannot move a premium.
The AARP login at secure.aarp.org opens a membership account and nothing else. Its own membership pages carry the sentence "AARP is not an insurance company." The Medicare, auto, home and life plans that carry the name are run by UnitedHealthcare, The Hartford and New York Life, who pay royalty fees to use it. Member services on 1-888-687-2277 can fix a renewal. It cannot touch a claim.

What you need
14 itemsHow it works
Work out which company you are actually ringing
Pick up the plan card, the policy page or the bill. Whichever company issues it prints its own name there, and that name holds your file.
Keep the membership line for membership
Membership billing, the magazine, an address change and a renewal all belong to 1-888-OUR-AARP on 1-888-687-2277, Mon-Fri, 8am to 8pm Eastern. Automatic-renewal changes have their own line on 866-804-1278.
Medicare plans go to UnitedHealthcare
Its instruction on the AARP-branded Medicare site: "Already a member? Call the number on the back of your member ID card," 8am to 8pm, seven days. Members sign in at member.uhc.com, and Medicare supplement is 1-800-523-5800.
Auto and home go to The Hartford, life cover to New York Life
The Hartford's portal is account.thehartford.com/customer/login. No telephone number appeared on the AARP program page read on 8 September 2026, so the one printed on the policy is the route it intends. Life cover answers on (800) 607-6957, with sign-in at nylaarp.com/account/login.
If something goes wrong
I rang 1-888-687-2277 about a claim and got nowhere
- Cause
- That line is membership services; the claim sits with a carrier
- Fix
- The membership line cannot help. Ring the company printed on the policy: UnitedHealthcare for Medicare, The Hartford for auto and home, New York Life for life cover.
aarp.org/getstarted will not open
- Cause
- The path could not be read from here either
- Fix
- Both spellings returned HTTP 403 on 8 September 2026. A 403 refuses the request; it does not prove the page has gone. Nothing on the live site routes anyone there now, and the linked front doors are sign-in, join and renew.
The AARP Medicare contact page sent me somewhere else
- Cause
- The contact function is not held by AARP
- Fix
- aarpmedicareplans.com/contact-us.html 302s across to uhc.com/contact-us. UnitedHealthcare answers, because UnitedHealthcare is the plan.
An agent told me AARP endorsed him personally
- Cause
- Named plans are endorsed; people are not
- Fix
- The membership pages read "AARP does not employ or endorse insurance agents, brokers or producers." What it does endorse is stated just as plainly: "We do however endorse the AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company."
I cannot find a phone number for AARP auto and home
- Cause
- The AARP program page published none
- Fix
- None is published there, so this page invents none. The portal is account.thehartford.com/customer/login, and the number on your policy paperwork is the intended route.
help.aarp.org loads a spinner and never finishes
- Cause
- It is a Salesforce front end
- Fix
- It returned a loading error rather than content on 8 September 2026 and could not be read. Every phone number here comes from aarp.org/membership/faqs/, which was read in full.
What’s fixed, and what actually varies
Membership is the only piece of this that AARP runs itself.
Fixed
- "AARP is not an insurance company," in AARP's own words
- Membership sign-in at secure.aarp.org
- 1-888-687-2277 for membership, billing, the magazine and renewals
- Royalty-fee language on the AARP pages of The Hartford and New York Life
Varies
- Which carrier holds your particular AARP-branded product
- The underwriting company on an auto or home policy, state by state
- Whether aarp.org/getstarted is a distinct live destination, unconfirmed
- Whether your number is printed on a member ID card rather than published
Read the policy, the plan card or the bill. The Licensed Service Providers page at AARP calls these companies "unaffiliated entities that make available AARP-branded products or services and/or discounts to AARP members."
How compares
Four brands in this batch, four different companies behind the name.
| Chain | What the name says | Who actually runs it | Where the login is |
|---|---|---|---|
| AARP | AARP | AARP for membership; UnitedHealthcare, The Hartford or New York Life for the insurance | secure.aarp.org, then the carrier's own portal |
| Mercury Insurance | Mercury Insurance | Mercury Insurance Services, LLC on the portal footer | cp.mercuryinsurance.com |
| Tupperware | Tupperware | Party IP Holdings LLC after the Chapter 11 sale | myoffice.tupperware.com for consultants |
| doTERRA | doTERRA | doTERRA International, LLC, selling through independent contractors | doterra.com/US/en/login |
Checked on 8 September 2026 against first-party pages and the redirects they served.
A brand on a product tells you who marketed it. It has stopped telling you who answers the phone.
Why the name on the plan is a licence
The legacy post this page replaces treated AARP as one organisation you could ring about anything carrying its logo. It has spent years saying otherwise, bluntly.
Start with the sentence on its own membership pages: "AARP is not an insurance company." The same page adds that "AARP does not employ or endorse insurance agents, brokers or producers," then carves out what it does endorse: "We do however endorse the AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company."
The carriers say the same from their side, the half most members never see. The Hartford's AARP page reads: "AARP and its affiliates are not insurers. Paid endorsement. The Hartford pays royalty fees to AARP for the use of its intellectual property." The New York Life site carries matching wording and its own royalty-fee sentence. Furthest of all goes the Licensed Service Providers page, describing the providers as "unaffiliated entities that make available AARP-branded products or services and/or discounts to AARP members."
Unaffiliated. That is the word chosen for the companies whose products carry the name.
The arrangement shows in the plumbing. aarpmedicareplans.com/contact-us.html does not open a contact form; it 302s across to uhc.com/contact-us, because UnitedHealthcare was always who you were going to speak to.
None of this makes a product better or worse. What it changes is routing. A member holding a denied claim, a premium query or a Medicare enrolment problem who dials 1-888-687-2277 has reached the organisation that licensed the name rather than the one holding the file.
And aarp.org/getstarted, the address the old post was built around? HTTP 403 on 8 September 2026. Unreadable, and unconfirmed.
Questions people ask
Is AARP an insurance company?
No. Its own membership pages carry the words "AARP is not an insurance company." It licenses the name to carriers who pay royalty fees for it.
What is the AARP member services number?
1-888-OUR-AARP, which dials 1-888-687-2277, Mon-Fri, 8am to 8pm Eastern. Spanish is 1-877-342-2277, and +1-202-434-7598 covers calls from outside the United States.
Where is the AARP login?
secure.aarp.org/applications/user/login, the address the homepage Sign In link points at. It returned a 403 to an automated fetch on 8 September 2026, which is bot-blocking, not a dead address.
Does aarp.org/getstarted still work?
Unconfirmed. Both spellings returned HTTP 403 on 8 September 2026, so the page could not be read, and the Wayback availability API holds no snapshot of it. A made-up path on the same host renders homepage content rather than a 404.
Who do I call about an AARP Medicare plan?
UnitedHealthcare. Its guidance on the AARP-branded Medicare site is "Already a member? Call the number on the back of your member ID card," 8am to 8pm, seven days. For Medicare supplement it publishes 1-800-523-5800.
Can AARP fix a problem with my policy?
No. It licenses the name, and the carrier holds the file. Member services on 1-888-687-2277 cannot reach into it.
Which other companies run AARP-branded products?
The benefits page names Delta Dental, VSP, Foremost, Allstate, Fetch, Barclays, Optum Financial and Expedia among others. Each keeps its own records and service line.
