The Wendy's survey runs at WendysWantsToKnow.com, also reachable at TalkToWendys.com. You need three things printed near the top of your receipt: the restaurant number, the date, and the time of your visit. There is no separate survey code field. It takes three to five minutes and ends with a validation code that you write on the receipt and bring back on your next visit.

How to take the survey
Find the three fields on your receipt
Look near the top, above the itemised order. You need the restaurant number, the date of visit, and the time of visit. All three are printed together. If any one is missing or unreadable, the form will not accept your entry — thermal receipts fade, so photograph it the same day if you are not taking the survey immediately.
Type wendyswantstoknow.com into the address bar
Type it rather than tapping a link someone forwarded you. Both wendyswantstoknow.com and talktowendys.com load the same survey. The first screen asks you to choose English or Spanish.
Enter the restaurant number, date and time
The restaurant number goes in the first field. Some guides describe this as an eight-digit code — it is the same number, entered in the Restaurant Number field. Enter the date and time exactly as printed, including AM or PM.
Answer the questions
The survey covers order accuracy, food taste and temperature, staff friendliness, cleanliness, speed, and value compared to other chains. Most questions are rating scales with one or two open text boxes at the end. No account and no app download.
Write the validation code on your receipt
The code appears on the final screen. Write it directly on the paper receipt in pen. Once you close the page the code cannot be retrieved — there is no email copy and no way back into that session.
Bring the receipt back
Hand the marked receipt to the cashier on your next visit at the same location. Most offers require an accompanying purchase, commonly a drink and fries.
What’s fixed, and what actually varies
Guides on this survey contradict each other constantly — on the reward, the expiry window, and which countries are eligible. That is usually a sign the page was written once and never rechecked. Here is what actually holds, and what genuinely moves.
Fixed
- The three receipt fields required: restaurant number, date, time
- The 7-day window to take the survey after your visit
- One survey per receipt
- You must be 18 or older
- Wendy's employees and members of their household are excluded
- The validation code is written on the receipt, not emailed
Varies
- The reward itself. Dave's Single, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Jr. Cheeseburger and Frosty all appear depending on the promotional period and location
- Whether a purchase is required to redeem — usually yes, commonly a drink and fries, but this is set by the offer
- How long the validation code stays valid once written. Reported windows range from 14 to 30 days
- Eligible countries. US residency is consistent across sources; Canada and the UK appear in some guides and not others
- Participation itself — franchise locations are not all obliged to run the offer
Your own receipt is the authority, not any guide including this one. The specific offer you qualify for is printed on the receipt before you take the survey, usually just below the survey invitation. Read that line — it names your reward and any purchase condition attached to it. If your receipt carries no survey invitation, that location is not running the offer and no amount of entering the restaurant number will change it.
How Wendy's compares
Receipt surveys look interchangeable until you try two. The entry method and the deadline are where they diverge, and the deadline is what catches people out.
| Chain | What you enter | Window | Typical reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wendy's | Restaurant number, date, time — no separate code | 7 days | Sandwich or Frosty, usually with purchase |
| McDonald's | 26-digit survey code, or store no. + date + time + order no. | 7 days | Free item, BOGO or discount |
| Burger King | Survey code from the receipt | 48 hours | Whopper or chicken sandwich |
Rewards vary by location and promotional period at all three. Your own receipt overrides this table.
Wendy's is the only one of the three with no code to mistype — but it also means a faded receipt is unusable, since there is no fallback identifier. And Burger King's 48-hour window is roughly a fifth of Wendy's, so a habit built around Wendy's receipts will quietly lose you every BK offer.
If something goes wrong
- Cause
- Confusing a zero with a capital O, or entering the store's street address number instead of the restaurant number
- Fix
- The restaurant number sits with the date and time near the top of the receipt, not in the address block. Re-enter using digits only.
- Cause
- More than 7 days have passed since the visit printed on the receipt
- Fix
- Nothing recovers an expired receipt. The window runs from the visit date, not the date you first tried. Take the survey the same day next time.
- Cause
- The validation code is displayed once, in-session, with no email copy
- Fix
- The code is unrecoverable and the receipt is now spent. Wendy's customer service cannot reissue it. Write it down before closing next time.
- Cause
- Either the offer required a purchase you did not make, the code was redeemed at a different location than the one on the receipt, or the code has aged out
- Fix
- Check the offer line on your receipt for the purchase condition, and redeem at the same restaurant number printed on it.
- Cause
- That franchise location is not currently running the survey offer
- Fix
- There is no workaround. You can still send feedback through Wendy's customer service channels, but no reward is attached to that route.
- Cause
- This is not the Wendy's survey
- Fix
- The real survey never asks for a card number, an SSN, or a processing fee. It only ever asks for what is printed on a receipt. Ignore the message and go to wendyswantstoknow.com directly.
How to tell the real survey from the fake ones
Receipt-based feedback surveys attract imitators, and Wendy's is one of the most copied. The genuine survey asks for three things printed on paper and nothing else. It does not ask for a card number to 'verify' you, it does not charge a fee to release a prize you have already earned, and it does not arrive as a link in a text message. If a page asks for payment information at any point, close it. The only address worth typing is wendyswantstoknow.com, entered directly rather than tapped from a forwarded link. The same holds for the separate $500 Wendy's Menu Evaluation Sweepstakes, which is entered through the survey itself and never requires payment.
Questions people ask
Do I need a receipt to take the Wendy's survey?
Yes. The survey opens with the restaurant number, date and time printed on a Wendy's receipt, and there is no way past that screen without them. The receipt also has to carry a survey invitation, which not every location prints.
How long do I have to take the survey?
Seven days from the visit date printed on the receipt. The clock runs from your visit, not from when you first open the survey, and there is no extension once it lapses.
What free item do I actually get?
It depends on your receipt. Dave's Single, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, a Jr. Cheeseburger and a Frosty all appear across locations and promotional periods. The offer you qualify for is printed on your receipt before you start.
Do I have to buy something to redeem it?
Usually yes. Most offers pair the free item with a required purchase, commonly a medium drink and fries. The condition is printed alongside the offer on your receipt.
Can I take the survey more than once?
Once per receipt. A new receipt from a new visit gives you a new entry, so there is no cap on how often you can participate as long as each entry has its own qualifying receipt.
Is TalkToWendys the same as WendysWantsToKnow?
Yes. Both addresses load the same survey, and either one works. The two names appear interchangeably in Wendy's own receipt printing, which is why guides use them inconsistently.
What is the $500 sweepstakes?
The Wendy's Menu Evaluation Sweepstakes runs alongside the survey, awarding twelve $500 cash prizes across survey periods. Entry happens through the survey, is open to US residents 18 and over, and is separate from the food offer.
Can Wendy's employees take the survey?
No. Wendy's associates and members of the same household are excluded from the sweepstakes, and that exclusion is enforced if flagged.
