Chipotle Menu Prices — The One Chain That Can Actually Be Quoted

Chipotle menu prices are the control case for this whole category. At 31 December 2025 the chain ran 4,042 company-operated restaurants of 4,056, with 14 international partner-operated, so one owner sets every price in the United States. Trackers checked on 19 August 2026 still give five figures for a chicken burrito, $10.40 to $11.35, agree to the cent on guacamole at $2.95, and sit $1.20 apart on queso blanco. That spread is reporting, not the market.

Chipotle — the official menu Selecting a restaurant prices the menu for that restaurant — the only figure that is a quote.

How it works

  1. Start from the ownership fact, because it changes what a range means

At a franchised chain a wide published range can be honest reporting of a scattered market. At Chipotle it cannot. Only 14 of 4,056 restaurants sit outside company control, so disagreement between lists comes from the lists.

  2. Check whether the tracker looked or modelled

A single tracker prints New York at $11.65, Los Angeles at $11.25 and Chicago at $10.60, then states that all city figures are estimates based on operating cost models, not exact local menus. That is a tracker saying it did not check.

  3. Test a list on an item it should get right

Guacamole comes back at $2.95 from all five trackers, without exception. The same five give queso blanco as $1.75, $2.10 and $2.95. Exact agreement on one add-on beside a $1.20 gap on the next marks the ones not re-read.

  4. Price it in the app, and watch the add-ons rather than the base

A bowl and a burrito cost the same on every list, so that choice is about portion. Guacamole at $2.95 and the $3.50 Quesarito surcharge are where a $10.75 order becomes a $17 one. The app with your restaurant selected is still the only number that is a quote.

If something goes wrong

The price I paid does not match the list

Cause
Regional adjustment, or the list is stale
Fix
Chipotle prices move nationally rather than store by store, so a mismatch usually means the table was not re-read. Check the app.

Two nearby restaurants charge differently

Cause
Site type rather than ownership
Fix
Both are company-operated, so it is not two owners disagreeing. Airport, stadium and dense-downtown restaurants price above the surrounding market.

Three sites give three prices for queso blanco

Cause
One or more stopped checking
Fix
$1.75, $2.10 and $2.95 for one add-on cannot all be current at a single-owner chain. Take the page with the most recent update date.

Delivery cost far more than the menu said

Cause
Platform pricing sits above in-store pricing before fees
Fix
Order directly for collection and compare the subtotals. The gap is the platform, not the restaurant.

I cannot find a quesadilla in the restaurant

Cause
The quesadilla is ordered digitally
Fix
Order it in the app rather than at the counter. That is also why the $3.50 Quesarito is awkward to ask for out loud.

What’s fixed, and what actually varies

This is the one menu-prices page here where the published figure is close to a quote, for structural reasons.

Fixed

  • 4,042 of Chipotle's 4,056 restaurants were company-operated at 31 December 2025
  • The 14 exceptions are international partner-operated, not US franchises
  • Bowls and burritos are priced identically
  • Guacamole is $2.95 on every list checked
  • The Quesarito carries a standardised $3.50 surcharge

Varies

  • Regional adjustment, far narrower than at a franchised chain
  • Whether a tracker sampled restaurants or modelled a city from cost assumptions
  • Delivery and third-party platform pricing, which runs above in-store
  • Which limited-time proteins are on the line, and at what price
  • Whether app-only offers are running at your restaurant

Price your order in the app, then set it against the $10.40 to $11.35 band the trackers give for a chicken burrito. Inside it, the tables describe you. Well above it, check whether you are on a delivery platform or in an airport.

How Chipotle compares

Menu-price tables fail differently at different chains, and ownership decides how.

ChainWho sets the shelf priceRestaurants not company-runWhy the published tables go wrong
ChipotleOne company, everywhere14 of 4,056 — under 1%No scatter to blame, yet five trackers still disagree
Chick-fil-AThe Operator, at nearly every restaurant2,795 of 2,863 traditional — 98%Real scatter of about a dollar, reported as a $7.04 gap
McDonald'sThe franchisee13,062 of 13,706 — about 95%Genuine spread, plus lists that miss its own $8 meal
Dunkin'The franchisee, at all but a few dozen US storesAll but a few dozenPoint figures on one donut ranging $1.09 to $2.86

Ownership counts from company filings and franchise disclosure documents, checked 23 August 2026.

Every other chain here has an excuse. Chipotle has none: one company sets 4,042 of 4,056 boards, so a wide published range proves the aggregators wrong rather than the market. Five trackers still failed that test on queso blanco.

One owner, one price, and five lists that still disagree

Chipotle Mexican Grill, of Newport Beach, California, reported 4,056 restaurants at 31 December 2025: 4,042 company-operated and 14 international partner-operated. It opened 334 company-owned restaurants that year, 257 with a Chipotlane, on revenue of $11.9 billion, up 5.4%. No franchisee anywhere in the US decides what a burrito costs.

That makes it the control case: a wide published range here cannot be reporting a scattered market, so disagreement between lists is a claim about the lists.

Five were checked on 19 August 2026. For a chicken burrito they give $10.40, $10.45, $10.75, $11.35 and $11.35. The steak burrito runs $11.50, $11.75, $12.45 and $13.10. Only one quotes carne asada, at $12.50. Every one prices the burrito bowl the same as the burrito, and every one puts guacamole at exactly $2.95. Then queso blanco, on the same counter and added the same way, appears at $1.75, $2.10 and $2.95 — a $1.20 spread at a single-owner chain.

They disagree about the shape of the market too, while knowing the same fact. The first states that Chipotle is corporate-owned rather than franchised, then puts California, New York, Boston, Washington and Hawaii 15 to 25% above its listed prices and airport, stadium and Manhattan restaurants 25 to 40% above. A second, updated 18 August 2026, says prices are fairly steady across the country. A third splits the difference with city figures, New York $11.65, Los Angeles $11.25 and Chicago $10.60, then concedes that all of them are estimates based on operating cost models rather than exact local menus. That is the most useful sentence published on this topic: a tracker admitting it did not look.

Questions people ask

How much is a Chipotle chicken burrito?

Five trackers checked on 19 August 2026 give $10.40, $10.45, $10.75, $11.35 and $11.35. Chipotle publishes no national figure, but with one owner setting every US price the band is genuinely narrow.

Why do published Chipotle prices disagree at all?

Not because of ownership. 4,042 of 4,056 restaurants are company-operated, so there is no franchisee scatter to report. The gaps are sampling dates and, in one case, city figures modelled rather than checked.

How much extra is guacamole?

$2.95, and all five lists agree to the cent. Free guacamole on veggie and sofritas orders is reported as standing policy, worth knowing if guacamole is the point of the meal.

Is a bowl cheaper than a burrito?

No — every list prices them identically. Bowls often feel more generous because the contents need not fit inside a tortilla, so the choice is portion rather than money.

How much is queso blanco?

Published at $1.75, $2.10 and $2.95. Those cannot all be current at a single-owner chain, so treat add-on figures as the least reliable line on any Chipotle table.

What does a Quesarito cost?

$3.50 over a burrito, a surcharge Chipotle standardised in 2015. On a $10.75 base that is roughly $14.25 before guacamole.

Do airport and city-centre restaurants cost more?

The sources split. One puts big markets 15 to 25% above its listed prices and airport or stadium sites 25 to 40% above; another says prices are fairly steady.
