Whataburger Menu Prices — Four Sites, Four Patty Melts

Whataburger menu prices are not published nationally — the company's own newsroom says only that prices can vary by market. That is why four price sites checked on 19 August 2026 quoted the Patty Melt at $7.89, $7.99, $7.99 and $10.86. The same four sites also disagree on calorie counts, which do not vary by market at all. That second disagreement is the useful one: a list that gets the calories wrong was never read off a menu.

How it works

  1. Price the item at your own restaurant first

Open the Whataburger app and select your restaurant before reading any number elsewhere. That is the only price tied to a location rather than an average of copies.

  2. Check the calorie count before you trust the price

The fastest test available, and nobody applies it. Calories are national and fixed; prices are not. A list printing the Whataburger Jr. at 370 calories against the company's 310 deserves as much confidence on price.

  3. Discard any list with no city and no date

Three of the four compared here carry only a metadata modification date, and none names the market its prices came from. A price with no market attached is not a price.

  4. Treat the $4 tier as the only fixed figure

More for $4 is a company-announced national price: four Jr.-size sandwiches at $4 each, with a small drink and fries for $3 more.

  5. Remember the breakfast clock runs backwards

The company's posting puts breakfast at 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. — twelve hours, opening at night. At a 24-hour restaurant the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is orderable at 3 a.m. and refused at noon.

If something goes wrong

I paid more than every list said

Cause
No list is tied to your restaurant
Fix
Normal rather than an error. Price the item in the app against your own location.

Two sites give one sandwich a $3 gap

Cause
One stopped updating and nobody noticed
Fix
Compare each site's calorie figure for that item. Wrong calories, wrong price.

The delivery total beats the menu board

Cause
Platform pricing, which the company does not address
Fix
No published position exists on delivery markups. Compare a pickup basket against a delivery basket.

No Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit at lunchtime

Cause
Breakfast closes at 11 a.m.
Fix
Working as intended. The window runs 11 p.m. to 11 a.m., so 3 a.m. works and midday does not.

A list shows an item my restaurant never had

Cause
Limited-time items linger on aggregator pages
Fix
The newsroom marks expired items. Aggregators do not, so dead items keep appearing with confident prices.

Two nearby restaurants charge differently

Cause
One may be among the franchised minority
Fix
Franchisees set their own prices. Treat each location as separately priced.

What’s fixed, and what actually varies

Little about Whataburger pricing is fixed, and the fixed parts are not the ones aggregators treat as fixed.

Fixed

  • More for $4 is a company-announced national price at $4 per sandwich
  • Calorie counts are national — one published figure per item
  • Breakfast runs 11 p.m. to 11 a.m., not a morning window
  • No national menu price list has ever been published
  • 206 of 1,085 restaurants were franchised in 2025 — 19 per cent

Varies

  • The shelf price of every core item, market by market
  • Whether your restaurant is company-operated or franchised
  • Whether delivery prices match in-restaurant prices — undisclosed
  • Which limited-time items are running in your state
  • How stale your list is; most carry no check date

Open the Whataburger app, select your restaurant and add the item to a pickup basket without paying. That subtotal is the only figure describing your store. Repeat as delivery — the company does not say whether the two match.

How Whataburger compares

Whataburger is the useful control case, because unlike the other two it mostly sets its own shelf prices.

ChainWho sets the shelf priceWidest gap between price sitesWhy the gap is that wide
WhataburgerMostly the company — about 879 of 1,085 in 2025Patty Melt from $7.89 to $10.86Not real variation; lists copied, not checked
Chick-fil-AThe local Operator, at effectively every restaurantOne chicken sandwich at $4.95 and $11.99Both figures printed in one paragraph, unread
Dunkin'The franchisee — the chain is almost entirely franchisedA classic donut from $1.09 to $2.11Vague ranges standing in for a checked price

The Chick-fil-A and Dunkin' figures come from the pages already published here.

Chick-fil-A and Dunkin' are franchise-priced, so part of their scatter is genuine. Whataburger ran about 879 of its 1,085 restaurants itself, so almost none of its scatter can be. A $2.97 gap on one sandwich at a company-run chain comes from the sites rather than the market.

The calorie count is the tell, not the price

Whataburger is the control case for a problem running through every menu-price listing online.

Chick-fil-A and Dunkin' are almost entirely franchised, so when their prices scatter, part of it is real. Whataburger is not built that way. BDT Capital Partners took the majority stake in 2019, after two decades with franchising paused, and the chain is still overwhelmingly company-run: the 2025 Franchise Times Top 400 listing puts 206 of 1,085 restaurants in franchisee hands. The company's own August 2026 figure, over 1,200 restaurants across 17 states, comes with no split attached. A chain running four in five of its own should produce almost no scatter.

It produces plenty. Four lists checked on 19 August 2026 put the Patty Melt at $7.89, $7.99, $7.99 and $10.86, and the Whatachick'n Sandwich at $5.69, $5.89, $5.99 and $8.24. A $2.97 gap on one sandwich is not market variation inside a mostly company-operated network. It is one site quoting a figure nobody rechecked.

There is a cheap way to identify which site, and it has nothing to do with price. The Food and Drug Administration requires chains this size to post calorie counts, and those come from one national table — they do not move between San Antonio, Texas and a store two states away. Price varies; calories do not. The company's figure for the Whataburger Jr. is 310 calories; three lists print it, and the fourth prints 370 — the same list carrying the $10.86 Patty Melt. A site that cannot copy a fixed number has not read the menu it reprints.

The company is candid about the rest: its newsroom, on the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, says only that prices can vary by market, which is why the aggregators had nothing to copy. The exception is promotional — More for $4, with chief operating officer Jessica Reicher quoted by Restaurant Dive. That is the only current figure with a company source behind it, 76 years after Harmon Dobson opened in Corpus Christi.

Questions people ask

How much is a Whataburger?

Four lists checked on 19 August 2026 quote $5.19, $5.49, $5.59 and $5.79. No national figure is published, so treat that as a band and check your own restaurant.

Why do price sites disagree about the Patty Melt?

Three of the four agree at $7.89, $7.99 and $7.99. The fourth prints $10.86 — and the wrong calorie count for the Whataburger Jr., so its figures were never read from a menu.

Does Whataburger publish its prices?

Not nationally. Its newsroom says only that prices can vary by market. Prices attach to a restaurant in the ordering flow.

What is More for $4?

A company-announced tier: four Jr.-size sandwiches at $4 each, with a small drink and fries for $3 more. The only price here with a named company source.

How much is a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit?

Published figures run $3.39, $3.69, $3.69 and $4.24. Availability matters more: the breakfast window is 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.

Are prices different in Texas than in newer states?

Very likely, but nobody publishes a state-by-state comparison. Texas is the home state and holds most restaurants, so published figures are implicitly Texas figures.

Do franchised restaurants charge different prices?

Franchisees set their own. The 2025 Franchise Times listing puts 206 of 1,085 restaurants in franchisee hands; Whataburger publishes no split itself.
