Chipotle Secret Menu — The Quesarito Now Has an Official Price

Chipotle put an official price on the best-known item from the unofficial Chipotle secret menu and made it harder to get. The Quesarito costs $3.50 over a burrito under a 2015 staff procedure that says to warm the quesadilla on the tortilla press. Chipotle stopped using that method in 2021: the quesadilla now cooks in a back-of-house oven and is the only app-only item on the menu. Pricing it never put it in training.

How it works

  1. Separate the builds that always work from the one that does not

Nachos and Dragon Sauce use line ingredients and no extra equipment, so they are never really refused. The Quesarito needs a quesadilla, and a quesadilla now needs the back-of-house oven.

  2. For nachos or Dragon Sauce, the line already has everything

Nachos are a burrito bowl with chips in place of rice and queso blanco in place of shredded cheese, cold toppings on the side. Dragon Sauce is sour cream and tomatillo-red chili salsa, about two to one, mixed at the table. Both are free with an entree.

  3. For a Quesarito, describe the parts and expect the surcharge

The name is not in the ordering system. Ask for a cheese quesadilla, uncut, used as the tortilla for your burrito, and expect $3.50 on top. Being asked to step aside is the procedure.

  4. Ask off-peak, and treat a refusal as reasonable

The build interrupts the line and the person serving may never have made one. Mid-afternoon on a weekday is the best window; at 12:30 a no is operational rather than rude.

If something goes wrong

They said no to the Quesarito

Cause
The quesadilla process changed in 2021 and newer staff were never taught the old one
Fix
Ask for a cheese quesadilla, uncut, used as the burrito tortilla, and ask mid-afternoon. The Takeout puts it plainly: possible in theory, but most employees are unlikely to know how.

I was charged for a burrito and a full quesadilla

Cause
That is the older, inconsistent pricing
Fix
The standardised figure is $3.50 over a burrito. Two full items is what Chipotle standardised to stop, so query it politely.

They asked me to step aside

Cause
It is the documented procedure
Fix
Staff are instructed to move the order off the main line while the quesadilla warms. That is the system working.

I cannot find it in the app

Cause
The name is not in the ordering system at all
Fix
The adult quesadilla is the only in-app-only item on the menu, and there is no Quesarito button. Order the quesadilla, then ask at the counter.

I read about an item nobody recognises

Cause
Much secret-menu content is invented or years stale
Fix
Chipotle's own marketing counts 53 real ingredients. If a build needs something outside them, no phrasing produces it.

What’s fixed, and what actually varies

Chipotle denies having a secret menu while formally pricing one item, and both are true at once.

Fixed

  • The Quesarito surcharge is $3.50 over a burrito, standardised in July 2015
  • The written procedure names the tortilla press, which left the line in 2021
  • Quesadillas have been app-only since 9 March 2021
  • Dragon Sauce components are free with an entree
  • 4,042 of 4,056 restaurants are company-operated, so the price holds nationally

Varies

  • Whether the person serving you has ever made a Quesarito
  • Whether a restaurant will attempt it during a rush
  • How a Burritodilla is assembled, since no standard exists
  • Whether you are charged the surcharge or two full items
  • Which limited-time proteins are on the line to build with

The surcharge is the tell. Charged $3.50 over a burrito, you are on the official procedure. Charged for a burrito plus a full quesadilla, you are on the inconsistent pricing Chris Arnold said in 2015 prompted the standardisation.

None is a guaranteed order. Availability depends on the restaurant and the queue.

Chipotle is the only chain here whose off-menu price is worth quoting, because one company sets it at 4,042 of 4,056 restaurants. It is also the only one that priced an item without training anyone to make it — which is how a national price and a shrug at the counter are both correct.

The price outlived the equipment it was written for

The Quesarito began as a customer invention and got popular enough to create a real problem: the same order was rung up differently in different restaurants. In July 2015 Chipotle standardised a $3.50 surcharge over a burrito and issued staff a procedure. Communications director Chris Arnold framed it as a fix for inconsistent charging, not an endorsement. The memo told employees to state the extra charge and have the customer step aside while the quesadilla warmed on the tortilla press.

Every part of that except the number has since stopped being true. On 9 March 2021 Chipotle launched a hand-crafted quesadilla as its first customisable digital-only entree, cooked in a new custom oven rather than pressed. Chief technology officer Curt Garner later explained why it stayed app-only: back-of-house ovens turn out two quesadillas in 45 seconds, but staff must prep at the front counter, walk to the oven and walk back, which runs the wrong way through the line. The adult quesadilla is the only in-app-only purchase on the entire menu, and Garner's assessment of that was blunt — they have failed to figure it out to date.

So the official price documents a method the kitchen no longer uses, and the only channel that can produce a quesadilla has no button for the item the price belongs to. The Takeout, reviewing this in November 2024, found that ordering one depends on finding an employee who remembers the old process.

The $3.50 does at least hold. The parent, Chipotle Mexican Grill of Newport Beach, California, ran 4,042 company-operated restaurants of 4,056 at 31 December 2025, with only 14 international partner-operated. One owner sets every US price, which makes this one of very few off-menu figures worth printing.

Questions people ask

How much does a Quesarito cost?

$3.50 over a standard burrito, a surcharge Chipotle standardised in July 2015. With chicken burritos quoted between $10.40 and $11.35 across trackers, that puts it in the mid-teens.

Can you still order a Quesarito in 2026?

Sometimes. The Takeout's assessment is that it remains possible in theory, but the quesadilla process changed in 2021 and most employees are unlikely to know the old method.

Why do some staff refuse it?

It interrupts the line and was never added to training. Asking mid-afternoon rather than at the lunch peak improves the odds.

Can I order one in the app?

No. Chipotle's adult quesadilla is the only in-app-only item on its menu, and there is no Quesarito option in it. Order the quesadilla, then ask at the counter.

What is a Burritodilla?

A quesadilla filled with burrito ingredients — flatter and more cheese-forward than a Quesarito. Use about half the filling you would put in a burrito or it splits.

What is Dragon Sauce?

Sour cream mixed with tomatillo-red chili salsa, roughly two to one. Both come free with an entree, so ask for them on the side and mix it yourself.

Can I get nachos at Chipotle?

Not as a menu item. Order a burrito bowl with chips in place of rice and queso blanco in place of shredded cheese, with cold toppings on the side.
