Kroger and Lowe's both hand the check to an unbranded third-party domain. Only Kroger publishes two different addresses for the same card and leaves the reader to pick.
Two Kroger addresses, and a number nobody agrees on
Kroger publishes the answer twice, differently. Its gift card product page lists four ways to see a balance: check the sales receipt, visit gcbalance.com, call 1-866-822-6252, or use the Kroger Family of Companies app. The gift card site instead offers a Check Gift Card Balance link pointing at kroger.com/checkGiftCardBalance. Both pages are Kroger's. Neither acknowledges the other.
The gcbalance.com route is the more interesting of the two, because the domain carries no brand at all — not Kroger's, not anyone's. That is the same pattern as Lowe's handing customers to a processor domain: legitimate arriving from the retailer's own page, unverifiable arriving from a search result. Which is the whole argument for typing the address.
The second disagreement is the number itself. The company's own balance guidance describes a gift card number plus a 4-digit PIN, usually under a scratch-off panel on the back. A large body of guides instead describes a certificate number printed near the magnetic stripe. Those are not the same instruction, and no source reconciles them.
The card's own terms are otherwise generous and slightly self-contradictory. Officially it is a prepayment for goods and fuel across two dozen banners in 35 states, a network the company put at 2,697 supermarkets on 31 January 2026, loadable from $10 to $250, with funds that do not expire and no fees — and then excludes fuel at Fuel Centers and fuel kiosks, along with Fred Meyer Jewelers and Littman Jewelers, with Food 4 Less limited to three states.
The Kroger Co. runs those banners from Cincinnati, Ohio, and they include Ralphs, Fred Meyer and King Soopers. Its own card works across them. The partner gift cards beside it do not.
