AutoZone is the outlier in the middle column, the only form here that also reads the return credit. It spends that in the third, by barring both from pickup orders.
The exclusion AutoZone writes down and nobody repeats
Three AutoZone pages answer this question and do not quite agree. The balance page names the destination: autozone.com/giftCard/cardBalance reads an AutoZone Gift Card and an AutoZone Merchandise Credit on one form. Its instruction says to enter the 16-digit card number; the form beneath marks two fields required, Card Number and Pin Number, and gives no length for the second. Aggregators fill that gap with a four-digit PIN.
The product page adds that cards sell from $10 to $200 and can be bought in bulk on a corporate order. The FAQ calls it a declining-balance card that never expires, carries no dormancy fees and cannot be redeemed for cash. It also carries a sentence no competing guide reproduces: gift cards, merchandise cards and store credit cannot be applied to In-Store Pick Up or Same Day Delivery orders.
Read together, the shape is odd. The company accepts gift cards online provided the card has a PIN, sells the card as an in-store instrument, then bars it from the two fulfilment options that end at a store counter. It pays for a shipped order and at the register, but not for the order you collect.
The same FAQ carries a stale figure, describing over 6,300 stores repeatedly on one page. Results published on 26 May 2026 put the count at 6,766 in the US and 7,856 worldwide as of 9 May 2026. The sentence stays technically true, which is why it has survived unedited — and why anything read off that FAQ is worth date-stamping. The quotations here were checked on 3 September 2026.
