Most reports of the Walmart survey not working come down to one thing: the wrong number off the receipt. A till slip carries several labelled figures, and only the ID number inside the sweepstakes block is the unique code the entry page wants. The second common failure is the clock. Entry closes one week from the cash register receipt date, and no page or helpline can reopen it once that week has run out.

What you need
10 itemsHow to take the survey
Find the sweepstakes block rather than the header
The number the entry page wants sits beside the printed offer of a chance to win. Everything in the header identifies the till and the transaction, the store number among it, and none of it opens the survey.
Rule out the TC number first
The long figure under the barcode is a transaction code. It is the one people reach for, because it is the longest thing on the paper and looks official enough to be the answer.
Check the date before re-typing anything
One week runs from the receipt date, not from the day you found the slip in a coat pocket. A refusal on a fortnight-old receipt is the rule working.
Type the address yourself
Put survey.walmart.com in the address bar. The search results for this term are dominated by pages that are not Walmart's, several of them carrying a dollar figure in the domain name.
Finish every question before you stop
The rules require the survey completed in its entirety with Submit clicked. Closing the tab on the last screen leaves no entry behind.
Fall back on the post if the code is beyond saving
A hand written card to Macedon, New York enters the same drawing for the same prizes. It needs no code, no receipt and no working entry page.
If something goes wrong
The code is rejected although I typed it carefully
- Cause
- A transaction or register figure was entered in place of the ID number
- Fix
- Go back to the block that mentions winning. The number beside that text is the unique code, and the long figure under the barcode is not.
It says my receipt has expired
- Cause
- More than one week has passed since the receipt date
- Fix
- The window is in the rules and nothing extends it. Your next visit prints a fresh invitation with a fresh code.
The page will not load at all
- Cause
- A near-miss domain from a search result rather than the official address
- Fix
- Type survey.walmart.com directly. The entry page also blocks automated readers, so no outside site can mirror it, this one included.
It says I have reached the entry limit
- Cause
- The cap of 78 entries per entrant has been used up for this period
- Fix
- That figure is written into the rules and covers every route together. The next entry period resets it.
I finished and nothing arrived
- Cause
- There is no guaranteed reward for completing the survey
- Fix
- Completion buys one entry. Five prizes of $1,000 and 750 of $100 are drawn on or about 9 November 2026.
I was told I am too young at 19
- Cause
- Three states raise the age floor above the general one
- Fix
- Mississippi requires 21. Alabama and Nebraska require 19, and the rest of the country requires 18.
A page wants card details before it will let me finish
- Cause
- No published clause permits any payment or card entry
- Fix
- Close it. The genuine survey asks about your visit and nothing else.
What’s fixed, and what actually varies
Two of these failures are the rules doing their job. The rest are the receipt being harder to read than it looks.
Fixed
- Entry must be made within one week of the cash register receipt date
- The survey must be completed in its entirety before Submit counts
- 78 entries per entrant across the period, one prize per person or household
- Materials are void if illegible, altered, damaged or mechanically reproduced
- A postal card to Macedon, New York enters the same draw with no code at all
Varies
- Whether a given receipt carries a sweepstakes block at all
- How badly the print has faded, since till paper is heat-developed dye
- Which labelled figure a particular receipt layout puts nearest the block
- Whether an emailed survey invitation arrived instead, with its own separate link
Nothing on the entry screen says which number is wrong, so check the paper instead of the form. The rules on corporate.walmart.com give the window and the cap; the receipt gives the code.
How Walmart compares
Three retail surveys, three characteristic ways of failing at the first screen.
| Chain | Commonest rejection | Window | What finishing gets you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart | TC number typed for the ID number | One week from the receipt | One entry, never a payout |
| Lowe's | A misread digit in a long numeric ID | 7 calendar days | One entry per month |
| Target | Loyalty number typed for the transaction number | 7 days by most accounts | Undisclosed |
Receipt layouts differ by store and by till. The paper in your hand overrides this table.
Lowe's and Target both fail on transcription, where slowing down fixes it. Walmart fails on selection, where slowing down does nothing until you know which of the printed figures is the one being asked for.
A receipt with five numbers on it, and only one of them opens the door
Almost every failure here starts on the paper rather than on the screen, and the paper is unhelpfully generous with numbers.
A Walmart till slip carries labelled figures for the store number, the operator, the terminal and the transaction, plus a long transaction code under the barcode. None of those opens the survey. The figure that does sits inside the printed block offering a chance to win, and the official rules call it simply the unique code, giving no length anywhere in the document. That silence is why no guide can tell you how many digits to expect.
The second failure is duller and less forgiving. Entry has to be made within one week of the cash register receipt date, and the survey has to be completed in its entirety with Submit clicked. A receipt found in a coat pocket in November is finished, whatever the code says, and half a survey abandoned on the last screen leaves nothing behind at all.
The third is a navigation problem. Read on 25 August 2026, search results for this survey were dominated by pages belonging to nobody official, and survey.walmart.com blocks automated readers, so no outside page can quote its live wording. Typing the address is the whole defence.
What rescues most of this is the route that needs no entry page. A hand written card posted to Macedon, New York enters the same drawing for the same five prizes of $1,000 and 750 prizes of $100. No code can be mistyped on a postcard.
Questions people ask
Why is my Walmart survey code being rejected?
Usually because a transaction figure was entered instead of the ID number inside the sweepstakes block. The rules call that figure the unique code and publish no digit count for it.
Which number on the receipt do I actually need?
The one printed beside the offer of a chance to win. The long code under the barcode identifies the transaction and will always be refused.
How long is a receipt good for?
One week from the cash register receipt date, in the sponsor's own wording. Nothing extends it, and no customer service route reopens a closed window.
The page will not load. Is the survey down?
Check the address first. survey.walmart.com is the one named in the rules, and search results for the term are crowded with pages that are not Walmart's.
It says I have already entered too many times
The cap is 78 entries per entrant across the whole period, counting every route together. It resets when the next entry period opens.
I finished the survey and got no gift card
None is offered. Completing it buys one entry into a draw for five prizes of $1,000 and 750 prizes of $100.
My receipt has no survey block on it
Not every receipt carries one, and the rules never address the case. The postal route is unaffected and enters the same drawing.
Can I ask a store to reissue the code?
No route exists for that. A fresh visit prints a fresh invitation, and a posted card works without any code.
