- HelpMeLogin operates no balance checker and never will. Nothing here can look up, reload, restore or refund a card.
- Reloading a compromised card feeds the thief twice. If the number was copied on the rack, the money you add follows the money that already went. Read the balance first.
- Type walmart.com yourself and follow Walmart's own links. A reload form asks for the card number and PIN, exactly as a cloned form does. Only the address bar separates them.
- Nobody legitimate is ever paid in gift cards. Walmart's corporate fraud page gives 1-888-537-5503 for gift card fraud and sends people onward to the Federal Trade Commission. No chargeback exists on a gift card.
A Walmart gift card reload runs to three published limits: $10 at the bottom, $100 for any single transaction, and $1,000 as the most a card may hold. Those figures come from Walmart's own eGift card terms, hosted on a Walmart domain and powered by CashStar. The gift card terms on walmart.com carry no reload section at all, which is why the numbers are so rarely quoted anywhere.

What you need
10 itemsHow it works
Read the balance before you add a cent
A card already drained will drain again. Check it on 1-888-537-5503 or from a page reached by typing walmart.com, and treat a zero on an unspent card as fraud rather than error.
Take the three limits from Walmart, not from a guide
The minimum reload amount is $10. The maximum for any single transaction is $100. The maximum Gift Card balance is $1,000. All three sentences sit in the eGift card terms, read on 26 August 2026.
Split anything larger than a hundred dollars
Two loads clear the per-transaction ceiling without touching the balance cap. Four hundred dollars means four passes, which is tedious and entirely permitted.
Keep the original receipt after topping up
Adding value creates no new proof of purchase. Under the eGift terms an original receipt is the condition of any cancel-and-reissue, so a reloaded card without one is a bigger card with the same weakness.
Understand what the load does to the legal clock
Funds behind a store gift card must stay good for at least five years after the date they were last loaded. That is the federal floor, and every reload resets it.
If something goes wrong
The reload was refused at a thousand dollars
- Cause
- The card already holds the maximum Gift Card balance
- Fix
- The ceiling is $1,000. Spend some of it down, or start a second card.
I tried to add $150 in one go
- Cause
- $100 is the ceiling for any single transaction
- Fix
- Split it. Two loads clear the limit, and neither breaches the balance cap.
A $5 top-up was rejected
- Cause
- The minimum reload amount is $10
- Fix
- Nothing smaller goes through. That floor is published, so it is not a fault in the card.
The new balance has not appeared
- Cause
- A displayed balance is an estimate only, in Walmart's own wording
- Fix
- Recent transactions may not have posted. Give it a day before treating the money as lost.
The reload page will not take my eGift card
- Cause
- Wrong site, or a lookalike
- Fix
- The eGift card terms cover reloads for that product. Reach the form by typing walmart.com and navigating from there.
The card emptied hours after I topped it up
- Cause
- Draining — the number was copied before you added value
- Fix
- Keep the card and the original receipt, call 1-888-537-5503, then report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
What’s fixed, and what actually varies
The chain owns its stores, so nothing here shifts by location. What shifts is which Walmart document a reader happens to open.
Fixed
- The minimum reload is $10
- The maximum single reload is $100
- The maximum Gift Card balance is $1,000
- Walmart states that its gift cards do not expire
- A gift card cannot be used to buy another gift card
Varies
- Which Walmart page a reader lands on, since only one carries a reload section
- Whether the card in hand is a Walmart gift card or a prepaid Visa gift card
- Whether an original receipt still exists for the card being topped up
- How quickly a fresh load shows, given the estimate only qualifier
- State rules on cashing out a residual balance, which differ across 14 jurisdictions
Open the eGift card terms and find the heading Reloading Walmart Gift Card Information. Three numbers sit beneath it. Reload from a page you reached by typing the address yourself.
How Walmart compares
Four retailers, four different answers to one plain question about adding money.
| Chain | Can the card take more money | The published numbers | Where the rule is stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart | Yes, eGift cards included | $10 floor, $100 a load, $1,000 ceiling | The eGift card terms, not walmart.com |
| Lowe's | Only a physical card bought in store | Any amount between $5 and $2,000 | The gift card shop page |
| Kroger | No route published for its own card | Loaded once, $10 to $250 | The store card page |
| Target | No, listed as not reloadable | None published | The GiftCard help pages |
Reload rules move when a terms document is reissued. Confirm against the retailer's own pages before topping up.
Walmart is the only one of the four publishing hard reload numbers, and it publishes them on the page fewest readers ever open.
The reload numbers live on the page nobody opens
Two Walmart documents carry gift card rules, and only one of them mentions adding money.
The Gift Card Terms and Conditions on walmart.com are the version everyone quotes. Read on 26 August 2026, they say gift cards do not expire, that they are not returnable or refundable, that Walmart does not replace lost or stolen ones, and that a card may be used at any Walmart or Sam's Club in the United States and Puerto Rico, in-app, and online. Reloading goes unmentioned.
The reload section sits instead in the eGift card terms, on a Walmart domain powered by CashStar, under a heading naming exactly what it governs: Reloading Walmart Gift Card Information. Three sentences follow. The minimum reload amount is $10. The maximum for any single transaction is $100. The maximum Gift Card balance is $1,000. Those limits reach the plastic Walmart gift card and the eGift card alike.
Beyond the arithmetic sits a clock. The gift card provisions of the Credit CARD Act of 2009, written into Regulation E at section 1005.20 and published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, require funds behind a store gift card to stay valid for at least five years after the date they were last loaded. Each reload therefore starts a fresh five-year floor across the whole balance. The retailer already promises more, since its terms say the cards do not expire, though a statutory floor is what survives when a promise is withdrawn.
One caution belongs beside the numbers. A balance seen online or read out by phone is an estimate only, in the company's own wording, because transactions may not have posted. A reload that has not shown up is usually a reload that worked.
The money is the liability of Wal-Mart Stores Arkansas, LLC rather than of Walmart Inc. Nobody notices until something goes wrong.
Questions people ask
Can a Walmart gift card be reloaded?
Yes. The eGift card terms carry a reload section, and it reaches eGift cards as well as plastic ones.
What is the smallest reload Walmart accepts?
Ten dollars. That minimum is published in the same terms, and nothing below it goes through.
How much can I add at once?
The maximum for any single transaction is $100, so a larger top-up has to be split across separate loads.
Is there a ceiling on the card itself?
Yes. The stated maximum Gift Card balance is $1,000, which is what a refused reload on a nearly full card usually means.
Can I buy a gift card using a gift card?
No. Gift cards sit among the ineligible purchases, alongside precious metals and financial products or services.
Does reloading push back an expiry date?
The published terms say these cards do not expire, so nothing needs pushing back. Regulation E would still demand five years from the last load.
My reload has not shown up yet
A displayed figure is an estimate only. Wait a day before assuming the money went astray.
Should I reload a card showing zero?
Never do that. A card drained on the rack will be drained again. Report it on 1-888-537-5503 first, with the original receipt.
