Four sandwiches share the McCrispy name

McCrispy is not a single sandwich. Four of the six items in this section carry the name: a plain McCrispy, a Deluxe, a Spicy and a Spicy Deluxe. This page covers the first of them, the one McDonald's lists at 470 calories. That count is the only figure cleanly separating it from the other three, which all come back at 530.

On price, $5.79 was typical, with $4.99 at the bottom of what came back and $5.99 at the top. A dollar of spread on one sandwich looks strange until ownership is taken into account. Most restaurants in the US are run by independent franchisees, and every one of them sets its own board.

What's in it

A crispy chicken fillet on a toasted potato roll, with crinkle-cut pickles. That is McDonald's own description, and it is the whole of the plain build. The full ingredient statement and the allergen list could not be read: the company writes both into the product page through a script that runs in the browser, so a plain read of that page returns boilerplate and nothing else. Calories survive the same process only because the count sits in the page text as an ordinary sentence.

What the menu establishes is the shape of the line. McCrispy is the plain build of four, and the 60-calorie gap up to the Deluxe is the measure of whatever that version puts on top. Anything more specific is guesswork.

Is it worth it

Two comparisons answer that with arithmetic instead of opinion. Set against the Spicy McCrispy at $4.99, this sandwich costs 80 cents more while carrying 60 fewer calories, which means the spicy build is at once the cheaper option and the larger one, an inversion that runs against how the rest of the menu is priced. Set against the McChicken at $3.59, it is $2.20 dearer for 80 more calories. On price per calorie the McChicken wins the section outright, and by a distance.

So the sandwich alone is hard to defend on figures. The meal is the opposite. $8.79 against $5.79 values the fries and drink at $3.00, while a medium World Famous Fries on its own was recorded at $3.99. So the bundle hands over the drink for nothing and discounts the fries as well, which is the strongest case for the meal button anywhere in this section.

Delivery apps sit outside all of it. They add a margin on the restaurant's own listing, so a delivery total is no evidence of the counter price.
