ALDI Gift Card Lost or Stolen — No Policy Is Published

If the numbers have already been read out to somebody
  • HelpMeLogin operates no balance checker and never will. Nothing here can freeze, cancel, trace, restore or refund a card, and nobody here can recover money for you.
  • Assume the money is gone, then report it anyway. No chargeback sits behind a gift card. The Federal Trade Commission still says to report the scam to the card company right away, however long ago, and to ask for the money back.
  • Keep the card and the till receipt. They are the only evidence in your hands, and the FTC asks for both when a claim is followed up.
  • Anyone offering to recover the funds for a fee is a second fraud. Reporting is free at reportfraud.ftc.gov, and no legitimate service charges to reverse a gift card.

An ALDI gift card lost or stolen has no published answer. The gift card section of the company FAQ runs to four questions, covering purchase, balances, reloading and bulk orders, and none of them concerns theft, loss or damage. No replacement route, no hotline and no receipt rule appears. That silence has consequences worth understanding, because federal law does not supply the protection most people assume is there.

The Federal Trade Commission's own page on gift card scams Where the FTC publishes what to do after paying a scammer in gift cards. HelpMeLogin is not affiliated with ALDI or with any government body, and can recover no funds.

How it works

  1. Go back to the shop that sold it, the same day

With no policy published, the till that activated the card is the only place holding a record of the sale. Take the plastic and the till receipt together.

  2. Ask for the transaction history, not for a refund

A store associate can see when the balance moved. Dates and stores are what a fraud report needs, and no policy obliges anyone to hand back the money.

  3. Report it to the Federal Trade Commission the same day

Filing at reportfraud.ftc.gov takes minutes and costs nothing. The FTC's own advice is to report a gift card scam however long ago it happened.

  4. Work out whether it was ever an ALDI gift card

A Giftly Prepaid Gift carrying the branding is redeemed for money on Giftly's own site and is not accepted by the merchant named on it. That claim goes elsewhere.

  5. Refuse every offer of recovery for a fee

Recovery scams follow gift card scams within days, using details of the first fraud as proof of standing. No genuine service charges to reverse a card.

If something goes wrong

Zero balance on a card I never spent

Cause
Gift card draining, before the card reached you
Fix
Keep the card and the till receipt, tell the store that day, and file at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Ask the retailer for the money back as well.

I cannot find a replacement policy anywhere

Cause
None is published
Fix
The gift card FAQ answers four questions and this is not one of them. No other page on the company's own site covers loss or theft.

There is no number to ring about it

Cause
No gift card line exists and store numbers are unlisted
Fix
Walk in instead. A guide telling you to phone a branch is describing a route that does not exist.

The receipt is gone

Cause
Nothing published says a receipt helps, and nothing says it does not
Fix
A card or bank statement from the day of purchase is the nearest substitute. Without either, no evidence of the sale remains outside the processor.

A caller demanded payment in these cards

Cause
Impersonation, and the standard opening of this fraud
Fix
End the call. No genuine bill, fine or account problem is ever settled in gift cards, and reading the numbers aloud ends the matter.

What’s fixed, and what actually varies

Stores are company-owned rather than franchised, so no branch has a policy of its own to fall back on. What varies is evidence.

Fixed

  • No replacement policy is published for the retailer's own card
  • No gift card phone line exists, and store numbers are unlisted
  • Gift cards carry no chargeback and no dispute window
  • Federal law bars a replacement fee, then excepts lost or stolen cards
  • The FTC advice is constant: report it, ask for the money back

Varies

  • Whether the till receipt survives, which is the only proof of purchase
  • Whether any balance remains for anyone to freeze
  • Whether a manager chooses to help, which nothing published requires
  • Whether the plastic was lost or the Security Code was copied
  • Whether the card was ever issued by the retailer at all

Look at the back of the card. A silver panel already scratched away means the numbers left before you did, which is a fraud report rather than a replacement request.

How ALDI compares

Four retailers, four published answers to the worst question a gift card ever raises.

ChainPublished replacement policyWhat it turns onWhere to report the fraud
ALDINone published anywhereNothing, since no route existsThe store, then the FTC
KrogerNone — the value is stated as lostNothing, since no route existsThe issuing brand, then the FTC
Lowe'sReplacement on the sales receiptThe original sales receiptThe store, then the FTC
TargetReissue by phone, lost or damagedThe original receipt1-800-544-2943, then the FTC

Policies are reissued without notice. Read the retailer's current terms before relying on any line here.

Kroger publishes a refusal and this row publishes nothing, which differ on paper and match at a counter. A refusal at least tells a shopper where they stand.

What the absence actually costs a shopper

The FAQ ALDI devotes to its gift card was read on 26 August 2026. Four questions are answered there: whether cards are sold, how a balance is checked, whether the card reloads, and how to place a bulk order. Loss, theft and damage appear in none of them, and no other page on the company's own site answers them. One help-centre article about gift cards renders only inside a browser and could not be read here, which is worth saying plainly rather than counting as proof.

The published silence still has an effect. Where a retailer names no replacement route, a shopper has nothing to quote at a service desk and no escalation to ask for. The shop that sold the card holds the sale record, so it remains the place to go, and a helpful manager may do something no document obliges them to.

Federal law does not close the gap. Regulation E, published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at section 1005.20, bars any fee for replacing a gift card or handing over the remaining balance, then ends the same clause with the words unless such certificate or card has been lost or stolen. The one protection shoppers assume exists is the one the rule specifically withholds.

Fraud is a separate matter from loss. Once a Security Code has been read out to a caller, the value moves at the speed of a purchase and no chargeback sits behind a gift card. What the Federal Trade Commission asks for is narrower than a refund: report the scam to the card company right away, however long ago, ask for the money back because some companies do return it, then tell the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

One last check belongs here. A Giftly Prepaid Gift bought under this branding is a different company's product, redeemed for money on Giftly's own site and outside the CARD Act by its own admission. Balances on genuine cards sit with Stored Value Solutions, acting for ALDI Süd of Batavia, Illinois.

Questions people ask

Does ALDI replace a lost or stolen gift card?

No policy is published either way. The gift card FAQ covers purchase, balances, reloading and bulk orders, and stops there.

Can the money be recovered after a scam?

Sometimes, and rarely in full. The FTC says to report it to the card company right away and ask for the money back, because some do return it.

Does federal law force a free replacement?

No. Regulation E bars a replacement fee in general, then excepts cards that have been lost or stolen — the exact case people expect it to cover.

What if I have no receipt?

Nothing published turns on one, and no wording dispenses with one either. A statement from the day of purchase is the nearest substitute.

The card was empty before I used it

That pattern is gift card draining. Keep the card and receipt, report it in store the same day, and treat it as fraud rather than a fault.

Someone promised to get my money back for a fee

Refuse, and report the approach. Recovery offers are a second fraud aimed at people the first one already found.
